Origem do nome

Also known by the names of Guarapina, Curuapina ou Cururupina. The fi rst expanation comes from indigenous origin, fl at frog or stubborn frog, because there were many of these animals in the region, originating the name of Ponta Negra Lagoon. The legend tells it has this name due to the Portuguese navigators have seen an enormous black wall from the open sea. The second story dates back to the 19th century, when there was a prohibition on the importation of slaves to Brazil, and it was forbidden to land them at the Valongo Pier, the famous port that received about 1 million slaves in Rio de Janeiro. With the prohibition, the slaves began to disembark in clandestine points and one of them was in Ponta Negra.
